About

Reflection of research process and results: (How did you go about finding your sources? How do you know that they are reliable? How could you improve/refine how you go about researching?

I found my research by typing in key words, such as, young people, politics, how, affect. I made sure that my sources came from research centres or universities, not from news sites as they are often biased and unreliable. Next time I think I should spread out my work across the week and not just do it all in one day.

Rationale

I created my inquiry questions then I took key words from the questions like "social media", "young people" etc. After finishing the research table, I looked at the 3 options that I had, 1000 word essay, presentation, and creative response. I didn't want to write 1000 words, because it's boring and takes forever. Last year I did a website in English about the Ukraine War, and I enjoyed that, and it was simple enough that I could get it done in time. I decided to do a website because it was something that I enjoyed doing unlike the 1000 word essay. I wanted to create a website as it can organise information into different tabs, it was simple to read and understand, and I can add in videos, and I can add images and charts unlike the essay. I didn't how to make a website, I started to use ChatGPT and ask it how to make a website and what I should do.

Last year in INS I did a similar research table, I wrote hundredths of words and multiple paragraphs for my summarised information, 90 percent of it was unusable and just me dragging out the key points. So this year I decided to use dot points and actually summarise the information instead of just putting it into different words. I started by highlighting the copied information and compressing them into smaller sentences. After finishing my research I worked on my website, and when it came to putting in the information I realised that most of my dot points had zero relation to the inquiry question, and that the dot points often agreed and disagreed with the question.

I had to do the same thing I did with every other essay that I wrote, I dragged on the dot points from a sentence into 2 or 3 paragraphs. And sometimes I would focus on a tiny unimportant detail like when I noticed a tiny grey line between the About and Learn tab. I spent way too long trying to remove it, In the end I had to go through 200 lines of code and delete a single line which fix the problem. If I were to do another research table in year 10 I would :

  1. Organise the information better
  2. Have information that is relevant to the question
  3. Don't hyper-focus on a single thing
